NASHVILLE, Tenn. — New obstruction of justice charges have been filed against a former Tennessee judge initially accused of helping a woman with her legal troubles in exchange for sex.

News outlets report former Davidson County General Sessions Judge Cason “Casey” Moreland was charged with destroying evidence and tampering with a witness Thursday.

A new criminal complaint written by FBI Special Agent Mark Shafer says Moreland orchestrated the theft of thousands of dollars from the Davidson County Drug Court Foundation over several years and asked an accomplice to destroy the evidence after the FBI began investigating.

The complaint says Moreland suggested ways the accomplice could lie to a grand jury as recently as Feb. 13. The accomplice was working with the FBI.

Defense attorney Peter Strianse says he hasn’t yet evaluated the case.
