Crash leads to power outage

A single-vehicle accident outside a substation was responsible for a power outage in Hope and Flat Rock on Friday evening.

Shortly before 8 p.m., a 2011 Chevrolet Silverado struck a pole, damaging a power transmission line in the 4800 block of Swain Drive in northern Columbus, said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman.

Approximately 1,900 people were affected by the outage, Duke spokesman Chip Orben said.

The driver of the truck showed signs of impairment and was transported to the Columbus Police Department for a certified chemical breath test, Harris said.

The incident remains under investigation.

Columbus Police Department was assisted by the Columbus Fire Department, the Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Office and Columbus Regional Hospital ambulance.
