NEWARK, Del. — Police in Delaware say that a pedestrian has died after being struck by a police vehicle.
The News Journal reported Saturday that the incident occurred Friday night in Newark, Delaware.
Delaware State Police said the officer was traveling on Delaware Route 4 when a 40-year-old man was struck about 9:40 p.m.
Police said the man was wearing dark clothing when he walked onto the darkened roadway. The front of the officer’s marked Chevrolet Caprice struck the man, sending him onto the hood.
He was pronounced dead at the scene. His name has not been released.
State police said the officer did not have his emergency lights activated. He was headed to a non-emergency call.
Police did not say if Friday’s windy and snowy weather played a role.
