Health department offers cholesterol screenings

The Bartholomew County Health Department will offer screenings for total cholesterol Tuesday morning and the morning of March 20.

Total cholesterol screening includes testing for triglyceride levels, which can indicate a stroke risk; low density lipoprotein, which indicates a risk for heart disease; and high-density lipoprotein, which measures good cholesterol.

In addition, hemoglobin tests, which examines blood protein levels, also will be available.

Participants must fast 12 hours prior to the cholesterol screening. However, fasting is not required for the hemoglobin screening. The cost for the cholesterol screening is $15. The cost of the hemoglobin is $2.

Hours at the nursing division of the Bartholomew County Health Department, 2675 Foxpointe Drive, Suite B, are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Testing is by appointment only. To schedule an appointment, call 812-379-1555 and select Option 1.
