Vehicle fire affects traffic on I-65 South in Bartholomew County

All lanes of I-65 southbound traffic near the 73-mile marker are now open following the morning’s semi-trailer fire, Wheeles said.

Cleanup may still be ongoing for some time, so motorists should use caution in the area, he added.

Traffic remains slow on I-65 southbound near mile marker 73 as crews work to clean up after a morning semi-trailer fire.

11:04 a.m. update

The left lane of southbound I-65 is open. Crews are working to remove the burned tractor trailer. Lanes could possibly be closed for two more hours. Traffic backed up to mile marker 76, said Sgt. Stephen Wheeles, spokesman for the Indiana State Police’s Versailles District.

COLUMBUS, Ind. — Indiana State Troopers and Bartholomew County Sheriff’s deputies are on the scene of a vehicle fire in the southbound lane of Interstate 65 at the 73.5 mile marker, near Taylorsville.

All southbound lanes are closed and could be closed for several hours, said Judy Jackson, spokeswoman for the sheriff’s department.
