SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — Authorities say a suspect has been arrested in a fatal shooting in a Springfield neighborhood.

The Springfield News-Leader reports that the 32-year-old man is jailed in Greene County on suspicion of murder in the death of 29-year-old Raquel Montgomery. Police found Montgomery in the yard of a home on Feb. 13 after receiving a call about a victim with a gunshot wound. She was rushed to the hospital where she later died.

A police spokeswoman said an off-duty Greene County Sheriff’s deputy was in Bass Pro Shops on Sunday when the deputy spotted the suspect. The deputy contacted police and the suspect was arrested without incident.

Montgomery’s mother, Margaret Montgomery, said her daughter was assaulted with an ice pick and feared for her life in the weeks before her death.
