MOUNT HOLLY, N.J. — A man has pleaded guilty to aggravated manslaughter in the shooting death of a woman during a party at his New Jersey home almost two years ago.

The Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office said Monday that terms of a plea agreement call for a 10-year prison sentence for 44-year-old Darren Winningham when he is sentenced April 27.

Law enforcement officials said several people had gathered at the Riverside Township house for the April 2016 party when 35-year-old Nikita Cross of Galloway Township was shot in the chest.

She was taken to Lourdes Medical Center in Willingboro where she was pronounced dead. Winningham was arrested and has remained in custody since at the county jail.

Stockton University of New Jersey posthumously awarded a bachelor’s degree in social work to Cross.
