CYPRESS, Texas — Authorities say a mother and her bedridden son have died in a Houston-area house fire.

The Harris County Fire Marshal’s Office says the cause of the fire early Monday morning in the home in Harris County near Cypress is under investigation.

Officials say one man was able to get out of the burning house and was taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation.

Cy-Fair Volunteer Fire Department Capt. David Padovan says the fire was through the roof when firefighters arrived. He says the residents were all members of the same family.

Fire marshal spokeswoman Rachel Moreno said there weren’t any smoke alarms in the home.
