MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Authorities are searching for a jail inmate who walked away from a work detail in Tennessee.

The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release that 24-year-old Jodie Pope escaped through some bushes while picking up trash near an expressway ramp on Tuesday near Memphis.

The sheriff’s office says Pope is serving a six-year sentence for robbery at the Shelby County Corrections Center. Officials say Pope had no disciplinary issues while in custody and had completed a “behavior modification program” that made him eligible for the work detail.

The news release says Pope also goes by the name “Jodie Mansie.” He was wearing blue jeans and a light blue shirt with yellow letters “SCDC” across the back when he escaped.
