State Street bridge work planned

Work is expected to begin in mid-June on a bridge rehabilitation project for State Road 46/State Street at Haw Creek in Columbus.

The Indiana Department of Transportation has contracted with R. A. Myers Construction of Muncie to serve as prime contractor for this $148,876 project. Myers will install a 3/8-inch polymeric overlay atop the 278-foot, four-span State Street Bridge near Central Avenue. Traffic will be restricted to a single lane in each direction while subcontractor crews apply the polymeric epoxy, INDOT said.

The polycarb overlay will serve as a sealant against moisture intrusion to extend the service life of the bridge over Haw Creek bridge. Flint chips mixed with the epoxy will provide friction for optimum maneuverability and stopping, INDOT said.
