Mason Sherman, Hauser senior basketball player

Sherman recorded 24 points, 10 rebounds and three blocked shots in Friday’s 69-63 sectional semifinal loss to Morristown. He also scored 17 points in a 69-51 first-round win against Rising Sun.

His performance last week: “I was proud of my team. They gave me the opportunity to do that.”

Do you do anything special to prepare? “Just listen to music before the game and get pumped up with my team.”

Favorite drink: “Dr. Pepper”

Favorite food: “Pizza”

Favorite book: “Unbroken”

Favorite class: “Psychology”

Role model: “My parents (Matt Sherman and Tana Marshall)”

Best advice: “Just never give up, no matter how much you’re down or how much people tell you you won’t be able to do something.”

Athletics goal: “Maybe to play intramurals in college.”

If you could travel anywhere: “Maybe Paris, just because it’s beautiful.”

Taylen Lane, Columbus East freshman gymnast

Lane tied for fifth in the all-around competition with a 35.55 in Saturday’s Connersville Regional. She also finished sixth on the vault with a 9.275 to help the Olympians to a runner-up team finish.

Her performance last week: “I probably could have done better, but I did the best I could do.”

Do you do anything special to prepare? “Usually on the bus ride, I just listen to music and try to get in my own zone.”

Favorite drink: “AriZona ice tea”

Favorite food: “Pizza”

Favorite book: “Famous Last Words”

Favorite class: “Geometry”

Role model: “My mom (Tonnie Lane)”

Best advice: “Just be myself, and somebody’s always going to be there for me.”

Athletics goal: “To place at state on Saturday.”

If you could travel anywhere: “Australia, because I like koalas. They’re my favorite animal.”
