PHILADELPHIA — Police have arrested a 31-year-old man in connection with a hit-and-run crash in Philadelphia that left three injured, including a 3-year-old girl in critical condition.

Authorities say the driver mounted the sidewalk in the city’s Mayfair section around 6:45 p.m. Tuesday, striking a 35-year-old woman and her two young daughters. Police say he fled the scene, leaving the 3-year-old girl still pinned underneath the vehicle.

Bystanders were able to lift the vehicle and pull the child out. All three were taken to a local hospital, with the girl suffering burns to her body. The girl’s mother and sister suffered minor scrapes in the crash.

Police have charged the man with aggravated assault while driving under the influence, recklessly endangering the welfare of children and other offenses.

An investigation is ongoing.
