COLUMBIA, S.C. — Spending records obtained from a South Carolina prosecutor’s office shows he used an office credit card to pay for a hotel in the Galapagos Islands and high-priced Uber rides among other spending.

The Post and Courier of Charleston with help from a newly-formed watchdog group Protecting Public Access to Public Records , obtained nearly 1,000 pages of records from Fifth Circuit Solicitor Dan Johnson’s Columbia office.

The records show Johnson used his office credit card to charge $912 at a deluxe hotel on the Galapagos Islands.

The records also show when out-of-town, Johnson frequently uses high-end Uber Black cars, which include sedans or SUVs.

It isn’t clear the business reasons for the trips or if Johnson reimbursed the spending. He skipped a meeting with the newspaper and hasn’t returned messages.
