Pickett tribute: County honors fallen deputy

The lights at the Bartholomew County Courthouse have been turned to blue through Sunday night as a tribute to slain Boone County Sheriff’s Department Deputy Jacob Pickett. The tribute began Thursday night.

That decision was made by the Bartholomew County Commissioners, county administrator Tina Douglas said.

Pickett was shot March 2 in Lebanon while helping pursue a man wanted on an arrest warrant who had fled with two others. Afterward, Pickett was placed on life support for donation of his organs. The deputy, who was a married father of two young children, died Monday, Boone County Sheriff Mike Nielsen reported.

Pickett’s funeral will begin at 11 a.m. today at Connection Pointe Christian Church in Brownsburg.
