Lenville ‘Red’ Frazier

Lenville ‘Red’ Frazier joined his family in Heaven on March 7, 2018 at Our Hospice in Columbus.

He was born in Kingdom Come of Letcher County, Kentucky, on Oct. 10, 1931 to John D. and Ida Hampton Frazier.

His family moved to Columbus for employment at Cummins Engine Co. when Len was a teenager. He worked for Cummins in machine and vehicle maintenance for 42 years, retiring in 1992. He also worked weekends for several years at Ceraland Park at the trap and rifle ranges.

He joined the Marines on Jan. 23, 1952 for a two-year service, leaving on Jan. 22, 1954 with a Corporal rank. He was stationed in Puerto Rico during the Korean War as part of ANGLICO Company, Air Naval Gunfire Liaison Company, as a radio operator.

He married Myletta M. Smith on June 18, 1955 and was married for 41 years before her passing on April 26, 1996.

He and Myletta gave their lives to Christ on Dec. 12, 1993 at Ogilville Christian Church.

They had three children, Gail (Perry) Shepard, Lori Gay (Glenn/Skeeter) Martin and Gloria Tolson.

Len was a 32nd Degree Mason and a past president and social director of the Bartholomew County Shrine Club. He was also a member of the Columbus Moose and the Seymour American Legion.

Len was an extremely sweet, loving, kind and fun-loving Daddy, husband, companion, Papaw, brother and uncle.

He truly loved life and enjoyed it to the fullest in everything he did. His family meant everything to him. He has a large, loving family of 12 brothers and sisters, three daughters; two grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Besides his family, his passion was fishing with his brothers and several fishing buddies. He always looked forward to his annual fishing trip with them. Other hobbies were “working” at his grandson’s bison ranch, named after Len, The Red Frazier Bison Ranch. H

e loved to travel, especially any place with water or a beach. He was an avid trap shooter and was instrumental in the opening of the Ceraland Trap Range.

He also enjoyed his Monday night “poker gang” for 20 years, as well as all sports including IU basketball, Colts football and NASCAR.

He was always dancing, the life of the party and always making people laugh with his humor, wit and unending stories.

He is survived by his longtime companion, Flo Ann Boyd; daughters, Gail (Perry) Shepard and Lori Gay (Glenn/Skeeter) Martin; grandson, Zachary Len (Danielle Schafer) Martin; granddaughter, Athena Ann Martin; brothers, Kirby (Myrtle) Frazier, Verlon (Karen) Frazier; sister, Glenda (Cornelius) Eggers; sisters-in-law, Eileen (Vincent) Frazier, Jewell (Hargus Red) Frazier, Patty (Carlus) Frazier; brothers-in-law, Wallace (Emaline) Lackey, Duane (Deletta Smith) Briles; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins.

He was proceeded in death by his parents; his wife, Myletta Smith Frazier; daughter, Gloria Tolson; brothers, Creed Frazier, Vincent Frazier, Hargus Frazier and Carlus Frazier; brother and sister-in-law Kinnon and Hazel Frazier; sisters and brothers-in-law, Stacy and Bailus Blair, Virgie and Don Poland, sisters Emaline (Wallace) Lackey and Vadis Frazier; sister-in-law Deletta (Duane) Briles; and many dear friends.

A funeral service will be held Monday, March 12, 2018 at 11 a.m. at Myers-Reed Chapel with Nelson Lee and Marty Wright officiating. Burial with military rites by the Bartholomew County Veterans Color Guard will follow at Garland Brook Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday, March 11, 2018 from 2 to 6 p.m. with a Masonic service at 6 p.m. at the funeral home. Additional visitation will be held one hour prior to service time.

Memorials can be made to Ogilville Christian Church or the Bartholomew County Shrine Club.
