City fire department hires 2 new members

Columbus Fire Department has hired two firefighters: Brandon Bartholomew, of Columbus, and Casey Taylor, of Edinburgh.

Bartholomew, 28, was home-schooled. He was a paramedic for Indianapolis EMS for five years and New Castle EMS for one-and-a-half years. He’s also served with the Whiteland Volunteer Fire Department for two years and the Columbus Township Fire Department for one year.

His certifications include technical rescue awareness, hazardous materials operations and awareness, and paramedic.

Taylor, 27, attended Edinburgh Apostolic Tabernacle and graduated in 2007, and also received training at the Tri-County Training Academy in 2013 and the Central Nine Academy in 2015.

He has been a member of Edinburgh Fire and Rescue for nine years, since 2009. Taylor also served with Seals Ambulance Service for two years, from 2013 to 2015.

His certifications include firefighter I and II, emergency medical technician, hazardous materials operations and awareness, technical rescue awareness, and CEVO and EVOC — both relating to the operation of emergency vehicles.

Bartholomew and Taylor will immediately begin a department training program, which includes department familiarization. After completing the training program, both firefighters will receive shift and station assignments.
