Harwood B. ‘Woody’ Smith

Harwood B. “Woody” Smith, 76, of Columbus, passed from this life at 7 a.m. Thursday, March 8, 2018 at his home.

Mr. Smith was born July 13, 1941, in Greensburg, Indiana, the son of Lynn Harwood and Marjorie Threlkeld Smith. On October 29, 1970, he married Linda D. Chichester; she survives.

Mr. Smith was a quality engineer at Cummins Engine Co. for 32 years. After his retirement from Cummins, he was a quality consultant for GCOM for 11 years and then for the last 11 years, Mr. Smith worked at Sam’s Club as a demonstrator and greeter.

Mr. Smith was a member of New Life Church in North Vernon.

He was an avid stamp collector and was a drum player most of his life.

Mr. Smith is survived by his wife of 47 years, Linda; sons, Jeff (Susan) Springmeyer of Greensburg, Scott Springmeyer of Las Vegas, and Gary (Carolyn) Smith of Columbus; and seven grandchildren.

Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Eric Newkirk.

The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street with Steve Bell officiating.

Family and friends may call from 2-6 p.m. Sunday and from 9 a.m. until service time Monday at the funeral home.

Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery.
