SWIMMING

Local swimmers win events at Southeast Divisional meet

Several competitors from Club Olympia and host Donner Swim Club won events in last weekend’s 2018 Southeast Indiana Divisional Swimming Championships at Columbus North High School.

Rachel Sabotin led Club Olympia with wins in the Open girls 50-yard freestyle, 100 freestyle, 100 breaststroke, 100 breaststroke, 200 breaststroke and 100 backstroke. Brady Beyer won the 10-and-under boys 200 backstroke, 200 butterfly and 400 individual medley and finished third in the 100 backstroke and 500 freestyle and sixth in he 200 freestyle.

Erica Samuel won the Open girls 200 IM and finished second in the 400 IM, fourth in the 100 breaststroke, fifth in the 100 freestyle, sixth in the 200 backstroke and seventh in the 50 freestyle. Nalanie Cortez won the 14-and-under girls 200 breaststroke and took second in the 200 backstroke.

Aidan McAlister won the 14-and-under boys 100 backstroke and took second in the 200 backstroke and 400 IM, third in the 200 freestyle and ninth in the 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle. Matt Stuckwisch won the Open boys 100 freestyle and was fourth in the 100 breaststroke.

Maggie Johnson finished second in the 14-and-under girls 200 butterfly, third in the 400 IM, fifth in the 200 freestyle, seventh in the 500 freestyle, ninth in the 200 IM and 10th in the 100 butterfly. Ayush Panda took third in the Open boys 50 freestyle and 500 freestyle, fourth in the 200 freestyle, fifth in the 100 freestyle and seventh in the 100 butterfly and 100 backstroke.

Arjun Bhadoria finished third in the 12-and-under boys 100 breaststroke, fifth in the 50 breaststroke, 10th in the 50 freestyle, 11th in the 100 backstroke, 17th in the 200 freestyle and 22nd in the 100 freestyle. Pratt Badve was eighth in the 14-and-under boys 100 breaststroke and 200 breaststroke, 10th in the 200 backstroke, 15th in the 200 IM and 24th in the 100 backstroke.

Daniella Preston finished 10th in the 12-and-under girls 500 freestyle; 13th in the 50 backstroke, 100 backstroke and 200 IM and 15th in the 50 butterfly and 200 freestyle. Alison Clauss took 16th in the prelims of the 12-and-under girls 100 backstroke, but did not swim in the finals because of a family commitment.

For Donner, Ainsley Sherlock won the 10-and-under girls 200 IM, 50 breaststroke and 100 breaststroke and finished second in the 50 freestyle and 200 freestyle and fourth in the 100 freestyle. Sherlock, Connelly Furnish and Cassidy Furnish teamed with Abby Proffitt to take fourth in the 200 freestyle and with Hannah Dean to place sixth in the 200 medley relay.

Cassidy Furnish also finished fifth in the 100 breaststroke and sixth in the 50 breaststroke, and Connelly Furnish took ninth in the 100 breaststroke and 11th in the 50 breaststroke. Proffitt was 11th in the 200 freestyle and 12th in the 100 breaststroke.

Evan Patterson won the Open boys 500 freestyle, and Ryan Singer captured the Open boys 100 breaststroke and finished sixth in the 50 freestyle, seventh in the 200 IM and 15th in the 100 freestyle. Singer, Christoper Lee, Nico Jones and Paxton Rush took second in the 200 freestyle relay; and Jared Greene, Rush, Singer and Christopher Lee were second in the 200 medley relay.

Rush also finished second in the 1,650 freestyle, fourth in the 400 IM and 200 backstroke, fifth in the 200 IM, sixth in the 500 freestyle and seventh in the 100 backstroke. Christopher Lee took third in the 200 backstroke, sixth in the 100 freestyle and 13th in the 200 IM.

Greene placed fourth in the 1,650 freestyle and 13th in the 200 IM. Michael Lee was fifth in the 200 backstroke, seventh in the 500 freestyle, 11th in the 100 breaststroke and 12th in the 200 freestyle.

Cole Ehara won the 11-12 boys 50 breaststroke and finished second in the 50 freestyle, third in the 100 freestyle, fourth in the 100 backstroke and fifth in the 200 freestyle. Jude Abdallah, Isaac Proffitt, Brock Smith and Ehara won the 200 freestyle relay and took 11th in the 200 medley relay. Abdallah was 11th in the 50 breaststroke.

Blake Day finished second in the 13-14 boys 100 backstroke, third in the 200 backstroke, fifth in the 200 IM and 100 freestyle and sixth in the 50 freestyle. Day, Tristan Cook, Matthew Goble and Daniel Utterback took third in the 200 freestyle relay and 200 medley relay.

Cook also finished third in the 100 butterfly, fourth in the 400 IM, sixth in the 200 butterfly, eighth in the 200 IM and 13th in the 50 freestyle. Utterback took seventh in the 100 butterfly and 100 freestyle, eighth in the 50 freestyle, 10th in the 200 IM and 14th in the 200 freestyle. Goble was seventh in the 400 IM, ninth in the 200 backstroke and 12th in the 100 backstroke.

Riddhi Garg, Viikhari Nalole, Ellie Proffitt and Adeline Rush finished second in the 13-14 girls 200 freestyle relay; and Rush, Garg, Nalole and Sammi Hoovler placed fourth in the 200 medley relay. Rush took third in the 100 backstroke, fifth in the 200 backstroke, seventh in the 200 IM and 11th in the 100 butterfly. Garg was fourth in the 500 freestyle, seventh in the 200 backstroke, eighth in the 100 backstroke, 10th in the 50 freestyle and 13th in the 100 freestyle.

Paige Maddox finished fourth in the 13-14 girls 1,650 freestyle, 13th in the 500 freestyle and 15th in the 200 backstroke, 200 freestyle an 100 backstroke. Hoovler, Josie Havenaar, Karissa Bevis and Maddox took sixth in the 200 freestyle relay; and Ellie Proffitt, Maddox, Bevis and Karissa Miller were seventh in the 200 medley relay.

Ellie Proffitt also finished fifth in the 500 freestyle, eighth in the 50 freestyle and 200 freestyle and 12th in the 100 freestyle. Hoovler took sixth in the 400 IM, 12th in the 200 IM and 13th in the 200 breaststroke and 100 breaststroke. Miller was seventh in the 200 freestyle and 100 freestyle, 11th in the 100 backstroke, 12th in the 200 backstroke, 13th in the 50 freestyle and 16th in the 500 freestyle.

Karlie Brown finished third in the Open girls 500 freestyle, fourth in the 400 IM and 100 butterfly, fifth in the 200 IM and 12th in the 200 freestyle. Caroline Swenson took third in the 100 breaststroke, fourth in the 200 breaststroke and 11th in the 500 freestyle and 200 IM.

Jennifer Utterback finished fourth in the Open girls 50 freestyle and 200 freestyle, ninth in the 200 IM, 10th in the 100 freestyle and 12th in the 100 backstroke. Paige Sherlock took 15th in the 100 breaststroke, and Jocelyn Carroll was 16th in the 100 breaststroke.

Dereck Prieto Marina, Jacob Havenar, Hudson Eicher and Keaton Stephenson finished ninth in the 10-and-under boys 200 freestyle relay. Stephenson took ninth in the 50 backstroke and 10th in the 100 freestyle.

SHOOTING

Senior invited to competition

Eli Edwards has been invited to shoot in the Air Rifle portion of the National Junior Olympic Shooting Competition in early April at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Edwards, a senior at CSA New Tech, qualified with his performance at the State Olympic Qualifier in January in Fort Wayne. He recently participated in the team competition at the Indiana State Junior Air Rifle Championships in Fort Wayne.

Edwards is a member of Hoosier Hills Youth Marksmanship, a shooting team sponsored by Hoosier Hills Rifle and Pistol Club.

BROOMBALL

Quarterfinal pairings set

Aaron Klene scored the game’s lone goal to lift No. 8-seed Slappin’ Balls to a 1-0 win against No. 9 Wicked Sisters in the play-in game of the Columbus Broomball League tournament.

Slappin’ Balls advances to play top-seed Toyota Tsunami’s in the quarterfinals at 4:30 p.m. today. No. 2 Flying Zambonis will face No. 7 Hansons at 5:30 p.m., followed by No. 3 Monsters of Rock against No. 6 CCA Kutters at 6:30 p.m. and No. 4 Yoopers taking on No. 5 Our Name Is Earl at 7:30 p.m.

Ricky Hooten finished as the leading goal scorer in the regular season with 14, one more than Matt Street. Josh D’Anna scored 11, and Tyler Houchin and Scott Herron each had 10.

WRESTLING

Five Panthers win

Five Jennings County wrestlers won their weight classes in last weekend’s Tri-County Tournament.

Kenton Wilson (102 pounds), Aaron Sanders (107), Jaydon Cochrane (127), Jaxson Swindell (167) and Peyton Hayden (177) all finished first for the Panthers. Evan Sohocki (112), Bladen Waterson (142), Chris Kiste (147) and Chancelor Clark (202) all took second.

PRO WRESTLING

HPW hosts ‘Mayhem’

Hoosier Pro Wrestling hosted “Mayhem” last weekend at the Bartholomew County 4-H Fairgrounds.

Dillen Swango and Buck Sexton won the HPW tag team belts when Sexton pinned Vinny Bambino. Scarecrow beat Echo the Clown by DQ, and The Drax pinned JC Bunyan. Butcher Manson destroyed The Referee, and Tim Lutz pinned Ace Jackson to become the new HPW Cruiserweight champ. Kenny Kage beat Flash Flanagan when Manson put Flash out to keep the HPW Heavyweight title.

HPW returns to the fairgrounds April 7 for “April Aggression.”
