MORRIS, Ala. — Authorities say a man was fatally shot outside his estranged wife’s mobile home in Alabama. reports that police in the community of Morris said the wife was detained for questioning in connection with the shooting Monday morning.

Morris Police Chief Mike Nazarchyk says the man and a woman who identified herself as the victim’s girlfriend reportedly went to the mobile home to pick up children, but none were there at the time.

Authorities say 37-year-old Joel Nathan Murphree was shot once in the chest.

The media outlet says the girlfriend told police the victim and his wife had been separated for at least a year. The two women were not immediate identified.

Nazarchyk says the girlfriend only saw the aftermath.
