Clair H. Davenport

TRAFALGAR

Clair H. Davenport, age 89, passed away Saturday afternoon, March 10, 2018 at Johnson Memorial Hospital in Franklin.

He was a lifelong resident of Trafalgar.

Clair was born October 15, 1928, on the family farm in Morgantown to his parents, the late Raymond and Eva (Hamilton) Davenport.

He was a 1946 graduate of Trafalgar High School and went on to attend Indiana University to study business.

Clair served as a Sergeant First Class with the United States Army during the Korean War.

He retired in 1993 from Cummins Inc. in Columbus as a fuel systems technician after 23 years of service. During his tenure at Cummins, he was credited with a patent for fuel injection systems.

Clair also owned and operated his family’s dairy and grain farm in Morgantown for more than 40 years.

He was a member of the Cummins Office Committee Union, Johnson County Antique Machinery Association and the Farm Bureau.

Clair was a former member of the Hensley Township Advisory Board.

He enjoyed collecting antique tractors, snowmobiling and riding on his golf cart.

Clair was a fan of the Indiana Pacers, Indianapolis Colts and college basketball.

He loved caring for his wife and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Jean (Wyrick) Davenport, whom he married on January 20, 1951 in Trafalgar. Clair is also survived by his children, Steve (Carol) Davenport and Gerald (Anna) Davenport, both of Morgantown; grandchildren, Sylvia Davenport of Columbus, Adam Davenport and Abby Davenport, both of Morgantown.

The Rev. Burt Brock will conduct a funeral service at 11 a.m. on Thursday at Meredith-Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center, 179 E. Mulberry Street in Morgantown. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be at East Hill Cemetery in Morgantown with Military rites presented by the Martinsville American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars Honor Guards.
