HICKORY FLAT, Miss. — A Mississippi man was fatally shot through the door of his trailer two weeks ago after an argument over a gun sale.

The Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal reports that no arrests have been made in the Feb. 25 slaying of Byron Miguel Alvarado.

Alvarado’s fiancĂ©e, April Michelle Herron, says three men wanted to retrieve a gun that Alvarado had bought, but wouldn’t refund his money. She says the 26-year-old was hit in the stomach and died in her arms. Herron says more than a dozen shots were fired.

Benton County Sheriff A.A. McMullen said Monday that his agency has collected weapons, but can’t identify the bullet that killed Alvarado until an autopsy is complete, which may be this week. McMullen says he wants evidence in hand before arresting anyone.
