City accepting Laws Human Rights award nominations

The Columbus Human Rights Commission is accepting nominations from the public for the William R. Laws Human Rights Award.

The recipient will be an individual, group or community organization with evidence of making a substantial contribution to Columbus in any area of human equality.

Examples include improving relationships among people, increasing sensitivity of one group toward another group, educating people about barriers or eliminating barriers facing people of color, women, those with disabilities, religious minorities or those treated unequally because of prejudice or using existing means or creating new safeguards to protect the rights of others.

The award will be presented at the 2018 Human Rights Commission dinner, which is being planned.

Nominations should be submitted to the commission office in Columbus City Hall, 123 Washington St., by 5 p.m. Friday. Nominations may be made by mail, personal delivery or email.
