Services and studies

Flintwood Wesleyan — Amplify (nontraditional) at 9 a.m. and The Well (traditional) at 11 a.m. will both be led by Pastor Wes Jones in the main sanctuary of the church, 5300 E. 25th St. The Prayer Team will meet at 8 a.m. and Sunday school classes will begin at 10 a.m. in their regular rooms. Adult choir practice will be at 5 p.m. followed by the evening service at 6 p.m.

The women’s study group, Connections, meets at 10 a.m. the second and fourth Mondays of the month upstairs in Curry Hall.

A Christian Journey with Paul meets at 6:30 p.m. every Tuesday in The Friendship Center. New members are welcome. Prior classes are not necessary.

The church’s Palm Sunday schedule for March 25 includes a breakfast served from 8 to 9:30 a.m. and a combined worship service at 10 a.m. in the main sanctuary.

On Easter Sunday, the Amplify service will begin at 9 a.m. with a time to mingle and have coffee and donuts from 10 to 10:50 a.m. The Well service will start at 11 a.m. Evening activities will be dismissed.

East Columbus United Methodist — Sunday morning fellowship begins at 9 a.m. in the foyer of the church, 2439 Indiana Ave., with beverages and light snacks. Worship will begin at 9:30 a.m. Young children will receive a special message before being dismissed to Children’s Church. A staffed nursery/toddler room will be available during the morning service. Sunday school will begin at 10:40 a.m. for all ages and Bible interests. No evening service will be conducted.

St. Paul Lutheran — “Fulfilled & Replaced (Not Fixed)” will be the title of Pastor Doug Bauman’s message for the 8 and 10:45 a.m. services Sunday at the church, 6045 E. State St. Scripture will include Jeremiah 31:31-34. Christian educational classes for all ages will begin at 9:30 a.m.

The theme of Bauman’s sermon for the 6:45 p.m. Wednesday Lenten service will be based on the hard sayings of Jesus. It will be called “Marriage for Life,” as defined in Matthew 19:1-12. A light meal will precede the service and be served from 5:45 to 6:30 p.m. in the Fellowship Room for a free-will offering. A hymn sing will follow.

Westside Community — Pastor Dennis Aud will lead the 10 a.m. service Sunday at the church, 124 Tipton Lakes Blvd. The children’s program up through Grade 6 will meet at the same time as the worship service.

A six-week DVD study, “Kingdom of Marriage” by Tony Evans, will be from 7 to 8:15 p.m. each Wednesday. Participants will be encouraged to tap into the power of God by seeking his design for marriage.

The church’s Easter worship service will begin at 10 a.m. at The Commons Mall, 328 Jackson St. All are invited to come celebrate.

Old Union United Church of Christ — The message, “I Want to Meet Jesus!” will be delivered by Pastor Kirby Rupp at the 10 a.m. service Sunday at the church, 12703 N. County Road 50W, Edinburgh. Scripture will include Jeremiah 31:31-34; Hebrews 5:5-10; and John 12:20-33. Sunday school will convene at 9 a.m., with fellowship to begin at 9:40 a.m.

Bible study will meet at 6 p.m. Wednesday.

Maundy Thursday will take place at 6:30 p.m. March 29 at Taylorsville United Methodist Church, 1361 Tannehill Road, Taylorsville. A Good Friday service will be at 6:30 p.m. March 30 at the church.

The church will have its Easter sunrise service at 6:45 a.m. April 1.

First United Methodist — At the 9 a.m. Traditional and the 11 a.m. Celebration services Sunday at the church, 618 Eighth St., the Rev. Howard Boles will deliver the message, “Living Values: Integrity.” Scripture will include John 12:20-33.

All are invited to the Midweek Service and Brown Bag Lunch taking place each Wednesday during Lent. The service will begin at noon in the chapel with lunch following at 12:30 p.m.

The church’s book club will meet at 6 p.m. Sunday to discuss “Reading with Patrick” by Michelle Kuo. All are welcome to attend.

First Presbyterian — Worship will begin at 9:30 a.m. Sunday at the church, 512 Seventh St., with a sermon, “I Will Draw All People to Myself,” and Scripture from John 12:20-33. Infant and toddler care will be available from 9:15 to 11 a.m.

The men’s and women’s support groups meet at 7 a.m. Fridays. A second men’s support group meets at 6:15 a.m. Mondays.

People in the community in need of a meal are invited to the Hot Meals program offered at 5 p.m. each Friday, with entrance through the glass doors on Franklin Street.

Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Columbus — The Rev. Nic Cable will deliver the message, “Getting to the Heart of the Matter: Discovering Our Core Values in Community,” during the 10 a.m. service Sunday at the church, 7850 W. Goeller Blvd. As a critical step in clarifying its vision, the congregation will define its core values.

Petersville United Methodist — Worship service begins at 9 a.m. Sunday at the church, 2781 N. County Road 500E, Petersville. “Lift Up” will be the morning’s message presented by Pastor Stormy Scherer-Berry. Deb Loper will serve as liturgist and will share Scripture from John 12:20-33. The children’s message will be given by Teresa Covert. A time of fellowship will follow the service and a Lenten study will be led by the pastor beginning at 10:30 a.m.

The Monday night Bible study groups will next meet March 26 and the Tuesday night Sit ‘N’ Stitch will next meet March 27.

Palm Sunday will be celebrated March 25. A Holy Thursday service will take place at 7 p.m. March 29. At 7 a.m. on Easter morning, the men’s and women’s groups will serve a sunrise breakfast.

Parkside Baptist — A sunrise service will take place at 7:28 a.m. April 1 at the church, 1780 Rocky Ford Road, followed by an Easter Cantata at 10:30 a.m. A nursery will be provided during the Cantata. All are welcome to attend.

Events

Tuesday Connection support groups — A collection of various eight-week support groups for adults, teens and children will begin at 6:30 p.m. March 27 at Community Church of Columbus, 3850 N. Marr Road. Dinner will be available at 5:30 p.m., and child care will be provided for children under the age of 3 with preregistration. Groups offered include: Griefshare, for those who have experienced the loss of a loved one; Love and Respect, a marriage enrichment series; Embrace Grace, a mentoring group for young women with an unintended pregnancy; Starting Point, intended for seekers of faith; Insight, a group for adults who have a loved one with an addiction; Celebrate Recovery, a recovery support program; The Landing, intended for teens; and Hero Training Camp, a program for prekindergarten through Grade 6. South Central Indiana Christian Men’s Fellowship — Ron Bridgewater, pastor of East Columbus Christian Church, will speak at 7 p.m. March 27 at the group’s meeting at the church, 3170 Indiana Ave. A donation-meal of pulled pork and trimmings will be served at 6:30 p.m. In the past, Bridgewater, a Christian singer, also has ministered through his music. His new album is “Time.”

Flintwood Wesleyan Easter egg hunt — All Wednesday activities, dismissed for spring break, resume March 28.

The annual Easter egg hunt will take place at 10 a.m. March 31 at the church, 5300 E. 25th St., with registration and sign-in beginning at 9:30 a.m.

Old Union United Church of Christ ham and bean supper — The church, located at 12703 N. County Road 50W, Edinburgh, will have its annual Lady’s Aide Ham and Bean Supper from 4 to 7 p.m. today for a free-will offering. Carryouts will be available.

Westside Community Easter egg hunt — The second annual Easter egg hunt will take place at 2 p.m. March 24 at the church, 124 Tipton Lakes Blvd. More than 5,000 eggs among four age divisions, from birth through Grade 6, will be hidden. Attendees can enjoy snacks, pet bunnies, take home treats and hear the good news about what Jesus did. Bring a basket or use bags provided by the church.

7th Street Church of God Easter egg hunt — The Community Kids Easter Egg Hunt will begin at 9:30 a.m. March 31 at the church, 2005 Seventh St. There will be prizes, a children’s sing-a-long and refreshments.

Sandy Hook United Methodist Easter egg hunt — The church’s Easter activities will kick off at 9 a.m. March 31 at 1610 Taylor Road. There will be donuts, a program and an Easter egg hunt. No pre-registration is required.

First United Methodist garage sale — Cause for Critters Garage Sale, Rachel Cialdella’s senior project, will be from 8 a.m. to noon March 24 in the Fellowship Hall of the church, 618 Eighth St. Donations may be dropped off from 3 to 5 p.m. Monday to Friday at the church. All proceeds will benefit the Bartholomew County Humane Society in memory of Jacqueline Watts, who was known for her avid love for and care of animals. Items not sold will be donated to San Souci and Mountain Mission.

First United Methodist ”Beautiful You” event — Girls in grades 7 to 12 are invited to join Elizabeth Wessel from 3 to 10 p.m. April 7 the church, 618 Eighth St., for her senior project, “Beautiful You.” Attendees will have the opportunity to discuss beauty and remind themselves that they are all unique and beautiful in God’s eyes. Dinner will be served and there will be a self-defense session, mosaic craft and photo booth to commemorate the night. Register by March 23 to reserve a spot. A $25 non-refundable deposit can be paid the evening of the event. Scholarships are available for those who need them.

Petersville United Methodist Easter egg hunt — An Easter egg hunt will be at 11 a.m. March 24 on the church lawn, 2781 N. County Road 500E, Petersville, with registration at 10:50 a.m.

The egg hunt will be grouped by age: Pre-K and kindergarten; grades 1 to 3; and grades 4 to 6. All are welcome to attend.
