SUMMERFIELD, FLA.

M. Roxie Russell, 91, of Summerfield, Florida, formerly of Columbus, Indiana, died Sunday, March 11, 2018 at the “Brandley House” Hospice of Marion County, Florida in Summerfield, Florida.

She retired from Creative Hair Design in October 2004 after being a hair stylist for 41 years and had been co-owner of Russell Grocery with her late husband, G.W. Russell. After moving to Florida in 2004, she continued as a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Columbus, and regularly attended The First Baptist Church of The Villages in Florida. She was a Kentucky Colonel, honored by the Governor of Kentucky for her unwavering devotion to faith, family, commonwealth and country.

Mrs. Russell was born in Washington County, Kentucky, February 3, 1927, the daughter of Leo and Virgie Smock Isham. She married Harry T. Harmon August 23, 1943 in Mackville, Kentucky, who was killed in action July 2, 1944. She married George (G.W.) Russell April 13, 1946 in Lebanon, Kentucky, who died December 2, 1997.

Survivors include a son, Harry Lee Harmon (Patsy) of Harrodsburg, Kentucky; daughters, Georgia Faye Groves (David) of Columbus, Ann Willard Arterburn (John) of Summerfield, Florida, Tina Alberta Dodd of Columbus; grandchildren, Laura Moore of Bloomington, Indiana, Shawn Arterburn (Amy) of Birmingham, Alabama, Sarah Hileman (Andy) of Horse Cave, Kentucky, Derek Harmon of Lexington, Kentucky, Dalton Dodd (Melissa) of Xenia, Ohio, Evan Dodd of Terre Haute, Indiana, and Claire Nichols (Michael) of Indianapolis, Indiana; 11 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Russell was preceded in death by her parents and a stillborn sister.

The funeral will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 21st, at Bethel Baptist Church, 142 Deaver Road, Columbus, with Pastor Adam Carrigan officiating. Calling will be Tuesday, March 20th, from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home, 1029 Washington Street, Columbus, and from 10:00 a.m. until service time Wednesday at the church. Burial will be at the church cemetery.
