Morristown headed to state finals

SEYMOUR — Hayden Langkabel scored 23 of his 29 points in the second half Saturday to lift Class A No. 4 Morristown to a 77-70 win against No. 5 Barr Reeve before a capacity crowd in the boys basketball semistate at Seymour.

The Yellow Jackets (27-2) led 16-6 early, but the Vikings (24-5) came back to take a 41-33 lead midway through the third quarter. Morristown went ahead 51-50 after three quarters and pulled away late.

Logan Laster scored 19 points for Morristown, while Eli Streeval added 15 and Trevon Carlton had 10. Austin Ainscough led Barr-Reeve with 19 points, while Isaac Wagler had 14, Keegan O’Neill 12 and Gabe Gladish 10.

The Yellow Jackets, who lost to Hauser during the regular season before avenging the loss to the No. 8 Jets in the sectional semifinals, will be making their first state finals appearance. They’ll play No. 3 Southwood, which edged No. 1 Fort Wayne Blackhawk 55-53 in the northern semistate.

Buzzer-beater lifts Warren

SEYMOUR — David Bell banked in a 12-foot runner at the buzzer to lift Class 4A No. 1 Warren Central to a 64-62 win against No. 3 New Albany in the second game before a packed house at Seymour.

The Bulldogs (25-2) led by as many as 10 points in the fourth quarter, but the Warriors (31-0) rallied to tie the game in the final minute. New Albany ran the clock down, but turned it over with four seconds remaining, and Warren inbounded the ball to Bell, who went coast-to-coast for the game-winner.

The game marked the end of the high school career of Mr. Basketball favorite Romeo Langford, who is widely regarded as the nation’s top unsigned recruit. Langford finished with 35 points and 12 rebounds, and Sean East added 12 points for the Bulldogs.

Dean Tate led the Warriors with 21 points. Bell added 17, and Jesse Bingham II and Joe Rush III each had 11.

Warren, which will make its first state finals appearance, will play No. 10 Carmel, a 63-44 upset winner against No. 2 South Bend Riley.

Culver upsets New Castle

Class 3A No. 4 Culver Academy upset No. 1 New Castle 65-60 at Lafayette Jeff. The Eagles (22-6) will face No. 3 Evansville Bosse (25-4), which beat No. 7 Danville 64-61.

In Class 2A, No. 11 Forest Park (25-4) will play No. 6 Oak Hill (25-5). Forest Park beat Indianapolis Seceina 58-47 at Washington, and Oak Hill downed No. 2 Westview 70-64 at Huntington North.
