COLUMBUS
Gaylord Eugene “Gene” King, 78, of Columbus, passed away at 10:08 a.m. Thursday, March 22, 2018 at Columbus Regional Hospital.
Mr. King was born August 26, 1939, in Orange County, Indiana, (near French Lick) to Chester A. and Berniece Bledsoe King. He married Judith Goins in 1965.
Gene was raised in Orange County near English, Indiana and graduated from English High School. He served in the United States Army from 1963 until 1965 and received an honorable discharge.
Mr. King worked for John C. Groub (Jay-C Stores) for 47 years before retiring. He enjoyed the outdoors, working in his vegetable garden, camping and fishing. Most of all, he cherished spending time with family and friends.
Following Gene’s wishes, cremation will take place and a private family gathering will be held at a later date and time.
Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Judith A. “Judie” King; son, Brian Eugene (Brittany) King of Columbus; granddaughter, Kinzey DeeAnn King of Columbus; brothers, Dwight E. (Maxine) King of Seymour, Chester E. (Joyce) King, Jr. of Jeffersonville; sisters, Wanda Jo (Richard) Hurley of Indianapolis and Sandra Lynn (Vernon) Canoles of Paoli, IN.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Brenda Ann King; and brother, Max Edward King.
