JENNINGS COUNTY — Jennings County Sheriff’s deputies arrested a Dupont woman who was reportedly pointing what was believed to be a firearm at a passing vehicle.
An Indiana Conservation Officer went to the call at 11:36 p.m. Friday in the 4000 block of South County Road 500E in Bigger Township, said Lt. Mike Mowery, Jennings County Sheriff’s Department spokesman.
Officers were told a man had been driving home and saw a female standing in a driveway pointing something at his vehicle. As he passed the residence, the driver heard a gunshot.
When the conservation officer arrived, Sara R. Murphy, 41, Dupont, stepped out from behind a vehicle in the home’s driveway and fired several shots from a handgun, Mowery said. The officer was able to back up his patrol vehicle to a safe location and called for help.
Jennings County Sheriff Gary Driver, Det. Sgt. Jim Blevins, sheriff deputies from Jennings and Jefferson counties and Indiana State Police troopers arrived and contacted Murphy by telephone. They were then able to take her into custody without further incident, Mowery said.
Murphy was arrested on charges of felony criminal recklessness with a firearm and felony intimidation with a deadly weapon, Mowery said. She was being held in the Jennings County Jail in lieu of $50,000 bond, jail officials said.
