COLUMBUS
George R. Cody, 91, of Columbus, passed from this life at 5:32 p.m. Tuesday, March 27, 2018 at his home.
Mr. Cody was born in Brown County, Indiana, May 29, 1926, the son of Pleasant G. and Edith Rose Bingham Cody. On September 10, 1955, he married Margie Haddix; she preceded him in death November 21, 2015.
Mr. Cody was a U.S. Navy World War II veteran and retired from Cummins Engine Co. after 44 years of service.
He was a longtime member of the Berean Bible Church in Columbus.
He also enjoyed membership in Camon Masonic Lodge No. 343 and Columbus Commandry No. 14 of Knights Templar, and was a 50-year member of Clifford Order of Eastern Star No. 587.
Mr. Cody enjoyed woodworking.
Mr. Cody is survived by his daughters, Gail “Stormey” (Carlos) Wall of Edinburgh, Carla (Jerry) Lambert of Columbus, and Darla (Michael) Newland of Columbus; 14 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
Mr. Cody was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 60 years, Margie; a son, Rickey G. Cody; four brothers and two sisters.
The funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street with the Rev. Jerry K. Day Sr. officiating.
Family and friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday and from noon until the service time Saturday.
Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery. Full military honors will be presented by the Bartholomew County Veterans Honor Guard.
