The landscape of downtown Columbus was changing dramatically with the old Commons and Commons Mall demolished, a city parking garage almost built and construction set to begin on a Cummins Inc. office complex.

City buses switched their usual loading and unloading stops to the south side of The Commons while the roof over the front section of the mall was replaced.

Richard Stadtmiller, a member of Columbus Boys Club, was named a finalist in the 22nd annual Boy of the Year contest conducted by Boys Clubs of America.
