DAYTON, Ohio — Police in Ohio say a man fired shots at officers and then led them on a chase ending when the suspect’s vehicle went into a river.

Dayton police say the man’s vehicle went off an embankment into the Great Miami River about 1 a.m. Sunday, and officers helped get him out of the water. Authorities say the chase began after the man fired several shots at officers as they tried to pull him over for a traffic stop in a Dayton neighborhood.

They say the suspect was taken to a hospital due to the temperature of the water. The man’s name and condition weren’t immediately released.

Dayton police Maj. Eric Henderson says no officers were injured.

Police say their investigation is continuing.
