SPARTANBURG, S.C. — A judge has denied bond for a South Carolina man charged in connection with a series of car crashes that killed an 80-year-old man and injured five other people.
Local news outlets report a judge denied bond Saturday for 40-year-old Scott Simpson of Inman. He’s charged with felony driving under the influence with death and leaving the scene of an accident with death.
During a hearing, Simpson apologized to the family of 80-year-old Donald Ray Bain of Spartanburg. Bain was killed in the wreck Thursday night on Interstate 26.
Authorities say Simpson’s car hit the rear of Bain’s car, forcing him into the median. Bain was then hit by a car as he checked the damage.
The driver and his four passengers were hurt when they hit Bain’s car.
