RICHMOND, Va. — Police in Virginia have charged a Richmond-area man with a fatal shooting and leading a chase that shut down a major highway for hours.

News outlets report Henrico County Police have charged 23-year-old Branden Dalay of North Chesterfield.

Police say they were called Sunday night to investigate a shooting in Highland Springs. The victim was identified later Monday as 33-year-old Stephen Powell of Henrico. An hour later, they received reports of a stolen struck in that same area.

When police spotted the truck, they say Dalay led a chase onto Interstate 64, which was closed in both directions for several hours. Police say Dalay crashed after making a U-turn, then fired shots at police.

Officers did not return fire. Nobody was injured.

Dalay was finally arrested early Monday morning.
