PHOENIX — Phoenix police say a man who may have been sleeping in a parking lot is dead after being run over by a car.

Sgt. Jonathan Howard says the car’s driver was located at a business at the location and that she is cooperating with investigators.

Howard says preliminary investigation indicates the driver entered the lot early Tuesday morning and struck an object she believed was debris as she parked her vehicle.

According to Howard, the man who was killed was wrapped in blankets and not immediately recognizable as a person without close inspection.

The Maricopa County Medical Examiner’s Office will determine the cause of death.

The incident happened in a lot on the southeast corner of Thomas Road and North Central Avenue.
