FALL RIVER, Mass. — A Massachusetts man convicted of carjacking and assaulting two sisters in their 60s has been sentenced to up to 12 years in prison.
Prosecutors say 53-year-old Daniel Carvalho, of Fall River, was sentenced after pleading guilty to multiple charges including assault and battery on a person over 60 and being a habitual offender.
Police say Carvalho grabbed the keys from a 69-year-old woman as she was getting out of her car in a supermarket parking in July. He told the driver’s 61-year-old sister to get out of the car and when she refused, police say Carvalho’s female companion punched her in the head.
The female companion, 48-year-old Evelyn Frederick, was sentenced in January to up to four years in prison.
Carvalho had robbed a laundry the previous day.
