ROCK HILL, S.C. — A man has died after being shot at a weekend birthday party in South Carolina.

York County Coroner Sabrina Gast told local media outlets that 24-year-old Eric Williams of Rock Hill died Monday in a Charlotte, North Carolina, hospital.

Rock Hill police spokesman Mark Bollinger said the shooting happened around 1 a.m. Saturday at the old American Legion post, which had been rented for a birthday party.

Bollinger said Williams was not at the scene when officers arrived. He was later found at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill. He was transferred to a Charlotte hospital where he died.
