Charles Alfred Ellercamp

Charles Alfred Ellercamp, 85, formerly of North Vernon, passed away at 12:35 p.m. on Monday, April 2, 2018, at Schneck Medical Center in Seymour.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 6, 2018, at First United Methodist Church in North Vernon. The Revs. Martin Sweet, Joe Wyatt and Mr. Bob Ochs will officiate. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, April 5, 2018 at Sawyer-Pickett Funeral & Cremation Service and one hour prior to the service on Friday at the church. Burial will be in Vernon Cemetery.

Born April 25, 1932, in Jennings County, Charles was the son of the late Alfred Charles and Helen Mildred Wissel Ellercamp.

He graduated from North Vernon High School in 1950, Wabash College in 1954, and served in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1956.

He married Betty Lois Brougher on July 21, 1956. She survives.

Charles began teaching at North Vernon High School in 1956.

He received his Master of Science degree from Indiana University in 1959.

Charles was named as the first recipient of the Dr. Carl A. Wildey Outstanding Teacher Award in 1985 and later retired from Jennings County Schools in 1994.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and a long-time supporter of the Jennings County Players. Charles enjoyed model trains, traveling and yard work.

In addition to his wife, Betty, Charles is survived by a daughter, Lois (Ed) Kellar of Hayden.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Helen Ellercamp and an infant brother, Harold Wayne Ellercamp.

Memorials may be made through the funeral home to First United Methodist Church or Schneck Medical Center Hospice.
