MINOT, N.D. — A Berthold woman has been sentenced to a year of probation for stealing a puppy from a Minot pet store.

Police say 25-year-old Tori Francis took a $600 Shih Tzu-Bichon Yorkie mix from Pet Parade on Tuesday. Authorities acting on a tip later recovered the dog from the basement of her boyfriend’s house.

Francis on Wednesday pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge. She was sentenced to 10 days in jail, with all of it suspended except for the one day she served, and 360 days of unsupervised probation.

Francis also was ordered to stay away from the store.
