‘Peter and the Wolf’ two shows set at First Fridays

The local Dancers Studio Inc. will present two free shows of the classic tale “Peter and the Wolf” at 6 and 7 p.m. Friday. That’s when the Columbus Area Arts Council presents Old National Bank’s final First Fridays for Families performance of the season. Dancers Studio has performed in the series for several years.

The performance highlights a show featuring the short ballet based on a Russian folktale with music composed by Sergei Prokofiev. The ballet is considered wonderful for children as it introduces a musical instrument for each character in the ballet. For example, the bird is represented by the flute and the young character of Peter is represented by the violin.

Peter disobeys his grandfather and goes into the meadow alone. In the meadow, he makes friends with Cat, Bird and Duck. When the wolf appears, Peter and his friends must work together to capture him. The hunter and Grandfather arrive after the wolf is caught and the celebration begins.
