BASEBALL

North downs Shamrocks

LOUISVILLE — Columbus North opened the Super Prep Tournament with a 5-2 win at Louisville Trinity on Friday afternoon.

Casper Clark threw a four-hitter with six strikeouts for the Bull Dogs (4-1). Adam Chapman had two hits and two RBIs, Tyler Finke had an RBI-triple and Jakob Meyer had an RBI-single.

North played Aurora (Illinois) Marmion Academy on Friday night at Louisville Ballard, but that game ended too late to be included in today’s edition. The Bull Dogs are scheduled to face New Lenox (Illinois) Lincoln-Way Central at 12:30 p.m. and Christian Academy of Louisville at 3 p.m. today, both at Christian Academy of Louisville.

Spartans topple Cougars

GREENSBURG — Southwestern (Shelby) limited South Decatur to three hits in an 8-4 Mid-Hoosier Conference decision.

Luke Eden took the loss for the Cougars (0-2, 0-2).

Trinity tops Crothersville

SEYMOUR — Jake VonDielingen, Tyler Goecker, Chandler Reynolds and Reid Kruse combined on a one-hitter in Trinity Lutheran’s 16-1, five-inning win against Crothersville.

Reynolds, Jack Marksberry and Kruse all had two hits for the Cougars (1-1). Lawson Woods had four RBIs, while Reynolds added threeand VonDielingen and Brayden Wilson each had two.

GIRLS TENNIS

Olympians blank Eagles

NASHVILLE — Columbus East won four matches in straight sets in opening its season with a 5-0 win at Brown County.

Megna Chari beat Hallee Miller 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1 singles, Kathryn Hodzen downed Julia Williams 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2 singles and Emie Kiser topped Cassidy Davis 6-1, 6-2 at No. 3 singles for the Olympians.

East’s Madelyn Rhodes and Jenna Shoaf outlasted Jacey Ferguson and Leah Tucker 6-3, 5-7, (10-5) at No. 1 doubles. Kara Allen and Ayano Nomura beat Olivia Baughman and Grace Baughman 6-4, 6-2 at No. 2 doubles.

Mohawks defeat Lancers

WALDRON — Annelise Lollar and Katie Roberts won by forfeit at No. 2 doubles, but that was the only point for Edinburgh in a season-opening 4-1 MHC loss at Waldron.

Haley Jones fell to Haley Huber 6-4, 6-3 at No. 1 singles, Sophia Parmer lost to Caroline Schaeffer 6-3, 6-2 at No. 2 singles and Paige Johnson fell to Lily Sizemore 6-2, 6-0 at No. 3 singles for the Lancers. Destiney Ramey and Haven Link lost to Emily Brinson and Amanda Brinson 6-2, 6-2 at No. 1 doubles.

Cougars drop slugfest

GREENSBURG — South Decatur put up 16 runs and 20 hits, but Southwestern (Shelby) pulled out a 17-16 MHC victory.

Karah Biddinger went 3 for 5 with two doubles and three RBIs; Katelyn Owens went 3 for 5 with two doubles and two RBIs; Brooke Owens went 3 for 6 with a double, a home run and two RBIs and Sierra Lang went 3 for 7 with a double, a home run and two RBIs for the Cougars (0-2, 0-2).

Also for South Decatur, Claire Wullenweber went 2 for 5 with two RBIs. Sam Goodfellow and Annie Gant each went 2 for 5, and Meghan Manlief went 2 for 6.
