BURLINGTON, Vt. — Police in South Burlington say no special law enforcement presence is planned for a pro-gun rally being held as part of a protest against a gun restriction bill that was passed by the Vermont Legislature.

The Saturday rally will be held at the K-mart plaza in South Burlington.

Organizers say participants are welcome to bring their weapons as long as they are handled responsibly.

Pro Rights 2A march organizer Christopher Covey says he’s told participants to “do what you’re comfortable with.”

The new law would raise the legal age for gun purchases and extend mandatory background checks to private gun sales, among other changes.

Covey, who says he’ll carry a .45-caliber handgun on his hip for the rally, says he doesn’t want any displays of aggression.
