ORANGE, Vt. — Students in what is to become a new school district in eastern Vermont are hoping to name it “Echo.”

The Times Argus reports the school districts in the towns of Orange and Washington recently merged and the students in the two communities have suggested the new district should be called the Echo Valley Community School District.

Residents of the two towns voted in favor of the Echo Valley school district on Town Meeting Day. But the school board agreed to let the students pick the new name for what has been known as the Orange-Washington Unified Union School District.

Incoming Echo School Board chair Jessica Foster praised the students for what she described as a “forward-thinking” decision.
