Police arrest local man after recovering stolen car

Columbus police arrested a local man and recovered a stolen car after receiving a report about a suspicious vehicle.

Officers were sent to the 800 block of Werner Avenue at 10:15 a.m. Friday after receiving a report of a suspicious vehicle parked in the side yard of a home, said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman. When officers arrived, they found David A. Compton, 19, Columbus, asleep inside a Ford Taurus that had been reported stolen in Columbus on Thursday.

After taking Compton into custody, police found packages that were determined to have been stolen, which were later returned to the owner, Harris said. Compton was arrested on charges of auto theft and unlawful entry of a vehicle, Harris said.
