Columbus’ importance in the presidential election grew with the announcement that Sen. Barack Obama would conduct a town hall meeting at Columbus East High School’s main gymnasium the next day. Meanwhile, New York farmers calling themselves “Travelers for Hillary” visited Columbus, Seymour, Greensburg and other Hoosier cities to discuss Sen. Hillary Clinton’s record of change for New York’s agriculture economy.

1993

Mill Race Park was open only to pedestrian and bicycle traffic until May 5, and visitors were asked to stay on asphalt and concrete walks to avoid damaging soggy grassy areas.

1968

Greeted by a downtown crowd estimated near 1,000, New York Sen. Robert F. Kennedy returned to Columbus to carry his Indiana presidential primary campaign to the voters.
