MINEOLA, N.Y. — A Long Island woman who drove her SUV into a crowd, killing a woman, has been sentenced to 17 years in prison.

Nassau County District Attorney Madeline Singas says Shania Buchanan was sentenced Tuesday for manslaughter and other crimes.

Prosecutors say 40 to 50 people had gathered to watch when Buchanan’s mother got into a street fight in Hempstead in April 2016.

Buchanan accelerated toward the crowd at 60 to 70 mph.

The crash killed 56-year-old Barbara Reid and seriously injured two others.
