WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah — Authorities say a man fired several shots outside a grocery store in suburban Salt Lake City, injuring a 3-year-old child and two adult women before fleeing on foot.

West Valley Deputy Police Chief Matt Elson said Wednesday that officers were searching for the suspect in nearby apartment complexes surrounding the store.

Granite School District officials say four nearby schools were put on lockdown for precautionary reasons.

Elson says the shooting appears to be random.

The three victims were each shot in the leg. None of the injuries is believed to be life-threatening. One of the women was the child’s mother.
