Woman accused of taking drugs into courthouse

A local woman was arrested after being accused of attempting to bring drugs and drug paraphernalia inside the Bartholomew County Courthouse.

Bartholomew County Sheriff’s deputy Matt Bush was sent to the courthouse at 3:24 p.m. Monday after correctional officer Tim Claburn said he located a syringe in a make-up bag that was submitted for search at the building entrance.

Sharon Cook, 54, 1103 Central Ave., told deputies that the syringe belonged to someone else. However, she said she had a pipe in her possession, but no other drugs or drug-related items. After Cook was taken to the Bartholomew County Jail, Sgt. Courtney Fish found a small baggie containing a white crystal substance in Cook’s possession, deputies said.

Cook was arrested on preliminary charges of possession of methamphetamine, possession of legend drug-injection devices, trafficking with an inmate and possession of paraphernalia, deputies said.

Cook was being held in the Bartholomew County Jail in lieu of $132,500 bond, jail officials said.
