Services and studies

Flintwood Wesleyan — Amplify (nontraditional) at 9 a.m. and The Well (traditional) at 11 a.m. will both be led by Pastor Wes Jones on Sunday in the main sanctuary of the church, 5300 E. 25th St. The Prayer Team will meet at 8 a.m. and Sunday school classes will meet in their regular rooms. Adult choir practice will begin at 5 p.m., followed by the evening service at 6 p.m.

The women’s study group, Connections, meets at 10 a.m. the second and fourth Monday of each month upstairs in Curry Hall.

A Christian Journey with Paul meets at 6:30 p.m. every Tuesday in The Friendship Center. New members are welcome. Prior classes are not necessary.

Grace Lutheran — The message, “Without a Shepherd, Sheep Are Not a Flock,” based on John 10:11-18, will be delivered at the 8 and 10:30 a.m. services Sunday at the church, 3201 Central Ave. Sunday school for all ages will begin at 9:25 a.m.

The Junior Confirmation class will continue from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Sunday evening.

Westside Community — Associate Pastor Robert Vester will lead the 10 a.m. service Sunday at the church, 124 Tipton Lakes Blvd. The children’s program up through Grade 6 will meet at the same time as the worship service.

A new six-week women’s Bible study, “Anxious for Nothing” by Max Lucado, will begin at 7 p.m. Wednesday and explore God’s treatment plan for anxiety, found in Philippians 4:4-8.

Petersville United Methodist — The Rev. Stormy Scherer-Berry will be giving her message, “By This We Will Know: The Dance of Love,” at the 9 a.m. worship service at the church, 2781 N. County Road 500E, Petersville. Scripture from John 17:21 will be shared by liturgist Joe Bush. Teresa Covert will deliver the children’s message and the choir will provide special music, directed by Kathy Bush and accompanied by Chris Kimerling. A time of fellowship will follow the service and the pastor will continue with the Lenten study at 10:30 a.m.

The Monday night Bible studies will meet at 6:30 p.m. at the home of Larry and Connie Nolting and Chris Kimerling. The Sit ‘N’ Stitch group will meet at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, also at the Nolting home. Choir practice will be at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, and Prayer Time led by Barb Hedrick will take place at 10 a.m. Thursday.

First Presbyterian — Marietta Macy, the church’s director of children and youth ministries, will preach on following Jesus’ example of loving our neighbors during the 9:30 a.m. service Sunday at the church, 512 Seventh St. Scripture will include 1 John 3:16-24 and 10:11-18. An ensemble from the choir will lead the congregation in worship. Infant and toddler care will be available from 9:15 to 11 a.m.

The men’s and women’s support groups meet at 7 a.m. every Friday. A second men’s support group meets at 6:15 a.m. Mondays.

People in need of a meal are invited to the Hot Meals program offered at 5 p.m. Friday, with entrance through the glass doors on Franklin.

Old Union United Church of Christ — The message, “The Good Shepherd,” will be delivered by Pastor Kirby Rupp at the 10 a.m. service Sunday at the church, 12703 N. County Road 50W, Edinburgh. Scripture will include Acts 4:5-12; 1 John 3:16-24; and John 10:11-18. Sunday school will begin at 9 a.m., with fellowship at 9:40 a.m.

Bible study will meet at 6 p.m. Wednesday.

First United Methodist — At the 9 a.m. traditional service and the 11 a.m. celebration service Sunday at the church, 618 Eighth St., the Rev. Howard Boles will deliver the message, “Hope for Our Future.” Scripture will include Psalm 23.

East Columbus Christian — The congregation will welcome John Laskowski, the first person in Indiana U niversity basketball history to grace the cover of Sports Illustrated, to the 8:30 a.m. traditional and 10:45 a.m. contemporary services Sunday at the church, 3170 Indiana Ave. During the Sunday school hour at 9:45 a.m., there will be a Q&A session with Laskowski in the church’s fellowship hall.

During the 10 a.m. service April 29, the congregation will welcome singer and songwriter Gordon Mote. Mote has received multiple awards from the Christian music industry and from the Academy of Country Music for his studio work with some of Nashville’s biggest artists.

Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Columbus — The Rev. Nic Cable will deliver the message, “Our World is One World,” during the 10 a.m. service Sunday at the church, 7850 W. Goeller Blvd. The congregation will recognize Earth Day by gathering in an interfaith community to discuss the precious planet everyone shares as one home.

Events

Flintwood Wesleyan — The Local Church Conference will take place at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the church, 5300 E. 25th St. Finger foods will be available for snacking. All other Wednesday activities will be dismissed.

The Flintwood Outdoor Market will open from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. the first Saturday of the month starting May 5. Food, craft and clothing vendors will be present along with vendors selling clothing, art, and bath and body items. Anyone interested in being a vendor should contact Kim Rutan at the church office.

The church’s fish fry fundraiser is scheduled to take place May 19. Further details will be released at a later date.

Petersville United Methodist — A Kite Day community event will take place at 11 a.m. today at the church, 2781 N. County Road 500E, Petersville, coordinated by Jack Schmeckebier and Teresa Covert. Clay Township Fire Department will have one of its fire trucks on the grounds for the kids to enjoy. A light lunch will be served at noon. All ages are welcome.

First United Methodist — The 53rd annual Smorgasbord will be from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the church, 618 Eighth St. The event will feature a buffet-style, home-cooked dinner and include some diabetic choices. The menu will include a salad bar, chicken and noodles, meatballs, roast pork, carrot casserole, cobblers and pies. Carry-out orders will be taken and delivery will be available for those who contact the church office by 3 p.m. the day of the requested delivery. Fantastic Country Store will also be selling various items and attendees will be able to browse a selection of perennial plants to purchase. Cost: $12 in advance for adults or $14 at the door; $5 in advance for children ages 5 to 10 or $6 at the door; free for children younger than 5.
