Cabaret series names next 3 acts

Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. today for the Columbus Indiana Philharmonic’s 2018 Summer/Fall Cabaret at The Commons series.

The winter/spring series wrapped up Thursday with a 400-person, sold-out concert with singer and piano player Johnny Rodgers appearing with Lee Lessack, recreating Simon and Garfunkel’s 1981 concert in New York City’s Central Park before an audience of 500,000.

Here is a rundown on the next three cabaret concerts scheduled for Columbus.

Rachel Bay Jones, June 14: The Tony Award winner known for “Dear Evan Hansen” takes audiences on a journey with the woman underneath her character of Heidi Hansen. She has also starred on Broadway in “Pippin,” “Hair,” and “Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown.”

Laura Benanti, July 26: In this intimate evening, the Tony Award-winning actress will perform songs from her celebrated career and share humorous anecdotes and experiences she has had both on and off the stage and screen. She received a Tony Award for her role as Gypsy Rose in “Gypsy” with Patti LuPone and starred in “Meteor Shower” with Amy Schumer, Keegan-Michael Key, and Jeremy Shamos.

Shoshana Bean, Sept. 26: Inspired largely by Frank Sinatra, Aretha Franklin and Barbra Streisand, the Broadway star’s powerhouse vocals, for which she has become known, will be on full display. She weaves through originals, new workings of contemporary hits and beloved classics. Bean performed on Broadway in the original cast of the Tony Award-winning production of “Hairspray.” She then auspiciously stepped into Idina Menzel’s shoes as Elphaba in “Wicked,” which she later reprised on the hit show’s national tour.
