This year’s BCSC prom ‘Written in the Stars’

A night in the stars will await students during this year’s Bartholomew Consolidated School Corp. prom.

Juniors and seniors from Columbus East, Columbus North and Columbus Signature Academy New Tech high schools will have their joint prom from 9 p.m. to midnight Saturday at The Commons.

The theme for the BCSC prom, “Written in the Stars,” is based off artist Vincent Van Gogh’s “The Starry Night” 1889 painting, said DD Stott, counselor at Columbus East and one of four advisors helping students organize the event. A prom committee made up of 30 to 40 students from each of the three high schools chose the theme this year, Stott said.

An estimated 1,200 students are expected to attend this year’s prom that will feature individuals arriving to the event using different methods of transportation ranging from motorcycles to floats in a parade-like atmosphere that has become an annual tradition. As in years past, a red carpet will be rolled out for attendees, while parents and other guests are expected to be along Washington Street taking pictures, Stott said.

Two designated areas featuring backdrops inside The Commons will also allow students an opportunity to have their photos taken for free. That feature has been popular among prom-goers, Stott said.

“We have always had a very long line in students wanting pictures,” Stott said.

Students will have the option of having three photos placed on a USB drive, which will be given to them, or photos can be taken with their cellphones, Stott said.

The prom court featuring 30 king and queen candidates — five male and five female seniors from each high school — will be introduced with the winners being named that evening.

The fun will continue during After Prom at the Foundation for Youth, 405 Hope Ave., that will held until 3:30 a.m.
