Prom fun time for students

Jennings County High School hosted its annual prom in a new location this year, at the Factory 12 Event Loft in Columbus from 5:30 to 11 p.m. May 5.

The change was due to the previous venue, the Clarion Hotel and Conference Center in Columbus, being sold and razed since last year. The change was welcomed by students and prom planners alike.

“The new venue was much classier than the last one,” said Chloe Fields, a junior.

Some students thought the fancier venue fit well with the “Titanic” theme for prom this year.

At 9 p.m., Hailey Brown and Cody Wilson, both juniors, were crowned prom king and queen, and led the dance following the crowning.

Once prom ended at 11 p.m., many students returned to the high school for after-prom activities. Here, students were offered free pizza, sandwiches, soda and desserts, along with multiple games and inflatables for their enjoyment. These activities were available to all junior and senior students, regardless of whether they attended prom. After-prom attendees were even allowed to bring a guest from another high school, a lower high school class, or a graduated student under the age of 21.

Games included Plinko, cornhole and ladder toss. After-prom also featured an inflatable obstacle course, a shark version of a mechanical bull and an inflatable slide. Some of the activities offered the potential to win prizes, such as gift cards, pens and lollipops.

Students found after-prom to be just as much fun as prom had been.

“After-prom was really fun. Especially watching my friends try to hold onto the shark,” Grace Davis, a senior, said.
